Let python carry out the operations instead of hard-coding the result (which you got slightly wrong as well)

I had several issues but I realized that I was simply overthinking the problem!

so what you need to input for total is simply this:

total = meal + meal * tip

You don't need parenthesis either because the order of operations will multiply the meal variable and tip variable first.
