Why do we have to type all the path to the directory we are in instead of just typing geography/

Good day. I have a question. If we are in geography/ directory, why do we have to type ALL the path to this directory, instead of just typing geography/ ?

do you have to though?
maybe codecademy cares, or rather, cares about seeing that exact sequence of characters, grep certainly doesn’t.

Actually I did it on my computer, and it also worked only when I typed all the path…

makes me wonder if you specified a path that would refer to a different location

$ mkdir a
$ echo blah > a/b # create a file with some text in it
$ grep -R la a     # search for "la" in a
a/b:blah
