hi guys, i was doing string methods , when i came across this in escape sequences
what is it exactly?

It’s a line continuation character, so it’s basically saying “Hey Python, this line doesn’t stop here, it continues onto the next line” - otherwise you would get a syntax error as the interpreter wouldn’t recognise that the string on the line below is part of the variable declaration, and would think that you’re missing the contents of the variable :slight_smile:

Edit: Actually, having said that, I’m not actually sure if it’s a mandated syntax thing (i.e would throw an error without it) or if it’s just a recommend stylistic thing, might be worth a test to see if it runs fine without it!
