What is your favourite OS?

What is your favourite Operating system and why?

for example
I like Android because of how much I can customize my device etc.

Be careful, last time someone made this question (which so happen to be me) things got slightly out of control

I like GNU/linux. Android is also linux. For the same reason as you: customize. Plus, for pc, GNU/linux makes it easy to do particular things (ssh  ), and much more. I am in control of the computer, i don’t have this feeling with windows (which is trying to keep me away from windows)

And GNU/linux is by developers for developers, testing an idea is so easy, there is most likely a tool to test your idea. And so on!

Somewhere, it is ironic, so many people use android, but have no idea (or just very little) what linux is, and how much it used (mobile, servers, iss, supercomputers, alsort of embedded devices, smart tv’s, routers, it is the backbone/workhorse of the internet

I agree, Linux is seen in a lot of places where we wouldn’t expect it. For example, I used to have a PlayStation 3. I thought it ran on Sony’s own OS or something. turns out it also runs on Linux. Linux is like Java in a way, its pretty much almost everywhere where we don’t expect it.

True, linux is everywhere (while most people don’t know this), i had to search for a bit, but this is what happened last time a similar question was asked here on the forum.

Same with java indeed, is at so many places, even where you don’t expect it.

Oh dear haha that did go out of hand. No offense to the person but Windows isn’t the best OS, and that isn’t just my own opinion. I admit I use it on my personal PC but that is only for stuff like homework and Steam games. Windows has always had the problem with customization; there is none. You can mostly customize the look of your wallpaper and what not, but at least for me I have never seen a windows user customize their Windows PC fully, like on Linux.

Not saying Windows is bad, Windows 10 looks very nice :slightly_smiling:

Hey, yes that discussion wow, I don’t even feel like reading it… and mostly between 4-5 people :anguished:

I use windows havn’t used any other operating system so I can’t say anything, but I’m happy with that’s all I can say…

I’m Android all the way ! IOS is good to but my preference is Android

Windows has it pro’s, and it cons. Playing games -> windows. photoshop -> windows. autocad -> windows, and so on. But that is mostly software on windows.

The customization in windows is very little.

You can’t customize windows like linux. Good luck switching DE or FM. Or run windows in a headless mode.

Every OS has it pros and con’s. Windows does look good indeed, but a good wallpaper + theme + icons + font + conky_lua, and linux can look stunning as well. But that requires a bit more work, which people are not interested in computers won’t do, so then 10 looks better. And windows is still a bit more polished.

In response to zainabrawat, no, don’t read it. Not worth it, mostly between certain people.

Like zainabrawat, i am a long time windows user (95,98,2000 very briefly), xp, vista, 7, 8 and 8.1 (and 10 very briefly in a virtualbox on linux), but i a made the switch 1-1.5 years ago, and now i don’t want to go back. In particular all the tools you have for coding, is heaven, in particular because you can completely customize all the tools.

Plus, linux is used a lot in webservers, so understanding those is good for your web development skills (know the environment your website is deployed in)

I have always liked Android over IOS due to how much more customization there is. I am not much of a fan of IOS as it feels too simple and restricted for me. The OS however looks good and runs very smoothly, but lets compare the latest iPhone to the latest Samsung Phone

iPhone 6s Specification
CPU- Dual-core 1.84 GHz Twister
GPU- PowerVR GT7600 (six-core graphics)
Memory- 2GB Random Access Memory
Camera- 12 MP, f/2.2, 29mm, phase detection autofocus, dual-LED (dual tone) flash
Storage- 16/64/128 GB
Size- 158.2 x 77.9 x 7.3 mm (6.23 x 3.07 x 0.29 in)

Samsung Galaxy S7 Specification
CPU- Dual-core 2.15 GHz Kryo & dual-core 1.6 GHz Kryo
Quad-core 2.6 GHz Mongoose + quad-core 1.6 GHz Cortex-A53 (I don’t know why there is 2)
GPU- Adreno 530 (Two again)
Mali-T880 MP12
Memory- 4 GB Random Access Memory
Camera- 12 MP, f/1.7, 26mm, phase detection autofocus, OIS, LED flash
Storage- 32/64 GB
Size- 142.4 x 69.6 x 7.9 mm (5.61 x 2.74 x 0.31 in)

(PS. I might have made this a little too unfair for the iPhone 6S due to using the latest Samsung that has come out not long ago.)

I feel like iPhone is the Windows in the mobile realm (Even though we have Windows Phone, but I would rather not mention that due to strongly disliking it) and Android is the Linux ironically.

You can’t compare these numbers, the software is much finer tuned for an iphone, so if they would roughly have the same specs, the iphone would be faster, because of software much better tuned to the hardware.

Use windows for gaming, small amount of linux and OS X. Anything coding based I’d prefer to use a mac but at work I’m using just a normal windows pc, hoping to swap it out for my laptop soon.

Got an android phone, don’t really like how it works after a years use, so went back to iPhone(today actually) and IOS because it’s just so easy

Side-note:
OS X is on macs and unix based. Much harder to get OS X onto a virtual machine.
Linux can be on anything through virtual machines, also unix based but they’re different for those who don’t know.

I guess you have a point. It surprised me when I saw that the S7 has hit 4GB RAM, Im not sure any other phone has hit that yet

yes, the Samsung Galaxy S6 edge+ 32GB black has 4gb of ram, the LG G5 Zilver has 4gb of ram. LG V10 Black, Xiaomi Mi5 Black, Asus Zenfone 2 (ZE551ML, Z3580) 32GB and so on.

here is a list, to bad it is in dutch. You might want to put it into google translate

Preferance, some people like the simplicity of iPhone, and I get that. And iPhones are just made to run faster, If you have a lot of stuff on your Android, It slows down much faster than an iPhone. At least from what ive gathered from personal experience with my iPhone 4s

Some very nice phones there. I especially like those LG phones, as they look decent

meanwhile my phone has 512mb ram  does run android 5.1

We are going a bit off topic here

It also depends on what you mostly use the phone for. These days you can’t just buy any phone and be able to do anything on it like run games or record 4K videos. My advice is to treat buying a phone the same as buying a PC, look at specifications, operating systems, companies etc etc. or if you want a phone that lets you call and text and occasionally go on Facebook, then just get anything

Indeed, we are going off topic hahah

Wow, decent price for some decent specs
But 3GB ram just hurts my OCD, I like my ram in even number hahaha

but macOS and ios are really difficult to install in a virtualbox, absolutely true.

Iphones are good too, if you like the way they work. I still have a old ipod touch, still works good

Seems you prefer mac
