I don't understand what this line of code is doing on the page:

I tried commenting it out, and didn't notice any changes.

That line of code is linking to the shift.css file. That file contains information on a font called Shift.

The information is being pulled in so that whenever you specify to use font-family: 'Shift'; that font will be available to your browser.

You should be able to notice the changes on any element that you have assigned that font to.
