What is the use of the div tag in this case?

I was led to believe that “div” tags were to create division and was told to add them exactly where they are on the screenshot below. However the output is exactly the same as before, adding the div tags has made no difference, can someone explain what i am supposed to have learned here or what i have misunderstood, thank you

Also i cant type out the html code because it prints the results in the question instead of the actaul code so i have resorted to using screenshots.
