In the context of this exercise, what is done during the storytelling part of the data science process?
Answer
The storytelling part of the communicating step can be one of the most important steps because it ultimately serves to make sense of the data. It helps to communicate and explain the data and findings so that team members and others in the company can use that to make better decisions.
Usually, a presentation, like one using Powerpoint, is used to present and summarize the findings and the process taken. These presentations utilize visualizations like graphs and tables to communicate.
Data scientists will share their conclusions drawn from the analysis and modeling of the data, and offer possible answers to questions that were originally made throughout the process. They can also try to provide solutions for problems that a company was facing, and help show what can be done to fix them.
This may not be related with coding directly, but I’m just curious, is there any real PowerPoint slides/decks examples here (or somewhere else) that are created and used by professional data scientists to present their visualization and storytelling?
can you tell me when I am running the command its showing same output as before. Its saying after you run the code scroll down in the browser component to get the new visualization but i am unable to scroll. Please tell me
I’m having this exact issue. I’ve sent in a bug alert, but since you’ve had the same issue since Nov 2020, I assume it may not get resolved… sigh
I think this process just ultimately helps you see the data clearer and in a simpler way. Sometimes we all look at numbers and it is difficult to gather what is providing us.We rather have the story telling component to guide us in to what Is actually occurring.
I did a big of Google research to find something that I had read before. In doing so, I realised that the relationship between data and storytelling differs depending on the environment. Sales vs Business decisions.
In Digital Sales emotions based on storytelling formed from data analysis drive sales.
However, in business there is a phenomenon called HIPPO effect where the person with the most influence and power in the room voices an opinion and everyone else is biased towards that solution. In that situation, data can take the emotion out of decisions.
“Data can take the emotion and opinion out of decision-making. First, try to find a data set that informs your decision. If there isn’t a data set that works exactly, try to find something similar that you could use as a fact-based foundation to help guide the decision-making.”
@jephos249 The objectives, hypoetheses and motivations for an investigation/data analysis must surely be important elements of a storytelling process. Without these, the analysis has no context from which to understand the meaning of the results and conclusions. Of course, one can’t even draw conclusions without having first stated the objectives of the analysis.
data visualization is an entire art all on its own. i’ve learned at previous companies i’ve worked for that you can tell almost any story you want if you do enough digging with the right data. data viz is powerful. it’s a responsibility to use it with integrity and honesty.
The story telling is already a big part of my current job. As a teacher, we use many different assessment tools and the data they produce is not always straight forward. If a student goes down in their vocabulary but up in their phonological awareness, we have to explore why and surround that information with the context of how we’ve been spending time in class.
Thank you for the recomendation. The “Caughiest Films”, had me cracked up Laughing!!! Although its actually very interesting and gives you a great insight into how far you can go with variations on a subject, even one as silly as this. Pure educational comedy. Brillant
