SyntaxError: Unexpected token else
I don't know what I am doing wrong on this, I've gone over it about 20 times and can't find that error

var compare = function(choice1, choice2) {
    if (choice1 === choice2);
    return "The result is a tie!";
    }
     else if(choice1 === "rock") {
        if(choice2 === "scissors") {
            return "rock wins";
        }
        else {
            return "paper wins":
        }
    }
}

this line:

if (choice1 === choice2);

for some reason you have a ; to interrupt the if statement, rather then a { to mark the start of the if statement
