Welcome to our forums! Please Introduce Yourself

Hey all, I’m Rick.

I’ve been an economics professor for the past 7 years and have realized that the part of my job I like the most (and most reliably) is coding. I’ve gotten pretty decent in R, and lately I’ve been playing around in NetLogo. But I want to broaden my skill set and open up more career options so here I am! I’ve been working up the courage to change careers for a few years now, and will probably go the data science route, but right now I’m working on the Full Stack path because I’m interested in the possibility of doing more general software engineering. I’m impressed with the platform and looking forward to learning more!

Hi all, my name is Madison.
To make a long story as brief as possible, I got diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma on August 24th of this year. I just got finished with two out of a total of six rounds of chemotherapy earlier today. I was a student going to a community college with only three classes left to get my A.S in General Studies. I was planning on transferring to Texas Tech this coming spring, but my plans came to a halt.

I hope as I’m continuing on this journey to beat cancer, I can get around to actually doing something with my spare time, like being on CodeCademy.:grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

I also hope that eventually I can earn a B.S in Computer Science and, hopefully, earn a M.S and eventually a PhD in Computer Science as well, but that’s a story for another time.

Anyway, I hope that by doing everything I can to try to learn programming/coding, that I can eventually help other people that are having the same problems.

Hi guys,
I am Zak from Malaysia. Decided to join CC after a long slumber! ,I am 60+ …hehehe, to find out all about what web development is all about and to relearn what computer science now is like. I graduated with a Computer Science degree from the Loughborough University of Tech. in the late 70’s !!!
My first program was written in a pseudo machine language and I had to literally ‘Punch Cards’ to input my program to the computer!!! Hehehe … that was fun …
So guys be kind to me and help me relearn.!!!

Hey, my name is Jeff and I’m currently working as a tech specialist for a software company out of New York. I’ve taken a handful of classes here on Codecademy (C++, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Command Line) but I’m now taking one of the career paths (Full-Stack Engineer) with the hopes of focusing my current studies. On the side I enjoy making games in Unity utilizing C#, exercising, playing video games, and hiking with my wife.

Hello Everyone!

My name is Frederick and I am currently a Sales Manager in the Events Industry, but I freelance heavily as an Audio Engineer/Podcast Producer/Editor. I guess i would label myself as a content creator to make things easy.

I’ve been on and off the path of coding (for many reasons) for a few months or longer, but I’ve decided that it is time for a career change and there is no time like now to get to it. Once I get a few more lines of code under my belt, i hope to switch careers and become a FEWB either full-time freelance or for a company.

Hello everybody, I’m Dean. I’ve been a pro member now for just over 5 months but this is my first time posting. I’ve read many posted questions relevant to lessons in the Learn Python 3 course and am very impressed with the depth of knowledge within the answers to those questions. I finally decided to take some time to introduce myself since I’ll eventually post a few questions soon in all likelihood - and hopefully even answer a few one day!

I’m currently at career crossroads. I work in the field of accounting but no longer find it fulfilling. While in college I took an introductory course in computer science but barely passed it. I found it very dry and abstract. I’m happy to say that’s not the case with Code Academy!

Right now I just want to see if coding and web/software development is something I should pursue further and possibly transition into a career that makes use of such skills. UX design is another area that I’ve explored a bit and find interesting. Even if I go in that direction, being armed with at least some coding knowledge will likely be helpful.

I’m glad to be part of this community and look forward to engaging in discussions with others in this forum.

Hey everyone,

My name is Regie. I’m from Cape Town, South Africa. I’m 27 years old and I’m a musician. I’m currently doing to the Full Stack Engineer Career Path, looking to break into the web development industry in any shape or form really. As a perfectionist (more or less haha) I feel the need to able to do everything from design to the back-end functionality. It makes learning a new skill quite overwhelming haha. I enjoy coding, however its more a means to an end to support my music career. iI that doest quite go the distance, I’m very motivated to see how far I can take coding.

Best of luck in all your journeys!

Hello everyone!

My name is Megan. I am a stay at home mother who is looking for a solid career. I have worked many different jobs since I graduated High School ages ago, and I have never really found anything that fit me. I want to have a good job for my family and I have always been interested in computers. I have done a lot of free websites for coding and this is the first one that actually gets to me and helps me retain the information.

Hi everyone!

I’m Alex, I’m a computational linguistics student, and I’m currently following the Data science track in the hopes of complementing my studies and giving me some extra practice with the programming side. I’m hoping this will give me a solid basis if I want to continue in an NLP direction. I haven’t been as active on codecademy in the last few months, but I hope that joining the forums and meeting others on here will provide some incentive to get more out of this website. I look forward to learning from all of you!

Hi everyone, I’m Yolanda. I already work in tech, but on the marketing/product side of the equation and coding is all very new to me. I want a more fully rounded skill set and to learn skills that will enable me to work in multiple contexts and create cool things! I’ve decided to take the full stack engineer course first and will be working my way through that over the next 6 months or so. I look forward to learning from and getting to know all of you as I figure out how everything works and how to use the forums et al properly

Who are you?
Hello I go by the name Dee and I am located in the Southeast part of the U.S.

What is your industry and profession?

My Industry is Healthcare and my profession is a IT Analyst

Were do you plan to use your new coding skills? Personally/professionally?
I plan on creating software to better people’s lives

Professionally I want to get a job in Tech with skills I plan on learning.

Why do you use Codecademy and what is your favorite thing about it?

I use Codeacedemy because this platform is easy for a novice like me. I really enjoy the fact there is a streak of how many days I have logged in. It keeps me accountable

What courses have you taken, or are planning to take?

I have taking full stack development or I should say started

Have you been to any of our meetups, or events?

No , I was not aware of any events but would be interested to meet likeminded people who love coding and are interested in networking
Do you have any examples of work that you have done using the skills you learned at Codecademy?

As of now no, but I hope that changes soon due to the course I will be taking:)

Do you have a cool story to tell about how Codecademy helped you achieve your goals?

No i dont yet but I hope to have them during and after my course

Hello to everyone!

Who are you?
My name is Mariana and I’m from Portugal.
I’m a very talkative person and currently I’m doing a 180º on my career and pursuing a different area: web development!

What is your industry and profession?
I studied Marketing, and last year I finished my post-graduation in Marketing Management.
I’ve recently left the digital marketing agency I worked at so I could pursue my studies in a easier and more focused way.

Were do you plan to use your new coding skills? Personally/professionally?
I plan on using it professionally, I’m still not sure what do I want to focus in: front-end, back-end or even both, but I do want to pursue this area as a career. However, I’d love to be able to help in volunteer works for non-profitable organizations and help them with any request they might have too, I think that would give me a good purpose personally.

Why do you use Codecademy and what is your favorite thing about it?
I looked into many platforms, some even free like YouTube tutorials, but the organization and the way courses are divided in Codecademy caught my eye: the lesson first, than quiz to make sure I understood everything and then the easy and cool examples provided really help settling down all the information learned. The fact that we even have the Careers already ready for us to learn makes that process easier, instead of struggling with which languages/tools to learn. From the monthly experience I already have here, everything is easy and straight to the point to use!

What courses have you taken, or are planning to take?
I have taken the “Learn HTML Course” and I’m finishng the “Learn Python 3”, both are amazing, easy to follow and learn. Today I started the Front-End Engineer Path since I’ve taken a huge interest in this area!

Have you been to any of our meetups, or events?
No and I wasn’t aware of them, just with this question ahaha I’ll make sure to pay attention to those.

Do you have any examples of work that you have done using the skills you learned at Codecademy?
Not yet, the only thing I have done as a plus to the courses is repeating the exercises on VS Code and changing the topic or the structure of things, like if an exercise is about burgers, now I’ll do it about pizzas.

Do you have a cool story to tell about how Codecademy helped you achieve your goals?
Well, I have had 2 IT Recruiters reaching out to me for an interview, but I think it’s WAY TOO SOON for me ahaha

Cheers,
Mary :muscle:t4:
