Wanderlust await-async practice project: sudden syntax I've never seen before

I’m working on the Wanderlust project and I’m suddenly confronted with this way of declaring variables: const $input = $('#city');

Why are the dollar-signs there? I’m following the web development career path, and this notation hasn’t featured there yet. Except when console.logging things like this is a ${varname} but then it’s the {} and not the ().

Is this jQuery?

Yeah, I think that’s jQuery.

I agree that it’s jarring - I presume there’s a reason why that particular project uses jQuery with no introduction.

You don’t need to do much with those pre-defined variables except plug them in to the functions in places, so the sudden appearance of jQuery with no prior explanation shouldn’t keep you from completing the project. :slight_smile:
