I got this error, and I tried to track back as to where I’d defined this method, but I really had not defined anyway. My question is then why were we instructed to call this undefined method in the first place

I think update_attributes is a Ruby on Rails method. You shouldn’t have been missing the it. Would you mind giving a link to the exercise you had trouble on?
