unexpected token else

var compare = function (choice1, choice2){
    if (choice1 === choice2) {
        return "The result is a tie!"
    }}
   else if (choice1 === "rock"){
        if (choice2 === "scissors"){
            return "rock wins";
            }
            else {
                return "paper wins";
            }
        }
        else if (choice1 === "paper"){
            if (choice2 === "rock"){
                return "paper wins";
            }
            else {
                return "scissors wins";
            }
          }

Here you accidentally close your function with an extra curly brace. }

I keep getting this error message as well.
I've tried changing a few things, but haven't been successful yet.
Can I get some assistance as well?

var userChoice = prompt("Do you choose rock, paper or scissors?");
var computerChoice = Math.random();
if (computerChoice < 0.34) {
computerChoice = "rock";
} else if(computerChoice <= 0.67) {
computerChoice = "paper";
} else {
computerChoice = "scissors";
}
console.log("Computer chooses: " + computerChoice);

var compare = function(choice1, choice2) {
var choice1 = userChoice
var choice2 = computerChoice

if(choice1 === choice2) {
return "The result is a tie!";
}
else if(choice1 === rock) {
    if(choice2 === "scissors") {
        return "rock wins";
    }; else {
    return "paper wins"
    }
};
else if(choice1 === paper) {
    if(choice2 === "rock") {
        return "paper wins";
    }; else {
        return "scissors wins"
    }
};
console.log(compare)

You are using semicolons after the curly braces, which ends the if statements.

Since the semicolons aren't necessary I would just leave them out. :slight_smile:
