Unable to run any of the examples related to node. That is, no error message, but the browser never opens

Example: https://www.codecademy.com/paths/web-development/tracks/javascript-back-end-development/modules/express-cumulative-project/informationals/bapi-p4-boss-machine

When I create my own projects and run them all is fine.
When I run the above project, the result is as shown below. I expect the line: Server listening on port 4001 to appear at the end. But it doesn’t. When I run the code academy soln (https://www.codecademy.com/paths/web-development/tracks/javascript-back-end-development/modules/express-cumulative-project/informationals/bapi-p4-boss-machine-solution)
then this line appears.

I use chrome and I use the latest node LTS version 12.4.1 verified running node -v

d:\Skrivebord\CodeAcademyLearning\ReactNew\bossmachine>npm start

build-apis-boss-machine@1.0.0 start d:\Skrivebord\CodeAcademyLearning\ReactNew\bossmachine
nodemon --watch server.js --watch server/

[nodemon] 1.19.4
[nodemon] to restart at any time, enter rs
[nodemon] watching dir(s): server.js server***
[nodemon] watching extensions: js,mjs,json
[nodemon] starting node server.js
[nodemon] clean exit - waiting for changes before restart

aaah.
I se now from the task text, that the listener is not started in the start code package.
In the section How to Begin, it appears that it should, executing npm run start. But in the section server boilerplate it is listed as one of the tasks to solve.
