Trying to use .find() and for loops

I am trying to create a function that returns a new list of updated damages where the recorded data is converted to float values and the missing data is retained as damages no recorded.

my code

So in my code I am iterating through the conver_damages_values and for some reason the else statement is running. I do not understand why it would run because the data seems to have all of the conditions met. Can anyone explain to me why the else statement is running?

You have if 'B' in i and later else.

This means that when 'B' in i is True,
updated_damages.append(i) is executed,
otherwise (meaning whenever 'B' in i is False)
print(i) is executed,
so print(i) may be executed if i is ‘Damages not recorded’ or 'M' in i is True,
but you still have 'B' in i is False

You can change your code  
so that only one of those blocks is executed, by changing every if after the first if to be elif

I didn’t see any conversions to float in your code.
