Try again: Make sure you put some text between your <a></a> tags?

#1

I've been stuck on this lesson for a couple days because it says I need text, but I have text... any help/suggestions appreciated.

    <!DOCTYPE html>
    <html>
        <head>
            <link type="text/css" rel="stylesheet" href="stylesheet.css"/>
            <title>About Me</title>
        </head>
        <body>
            <img src="https://s3.amazonaws.com/codecademy-blog/assets/46838757.png"/>
            <p>We're Codecademy! We're here to help you learn to code.</p><br/><br/>
            <div>
                <a href="https://facebook.com" <span>Like Us on Facebook!<span>>
                </a>
            </div>
        </body>
    </html>

your links opening tag (<a>) seems to have his > moved to after the span closing tag, while it should be before the span opening tag

#3

If I do that it tells me I haven't included an href= attribute. The code below gives me the error message: "Did you remember to give your tag a href attribute?"

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
    <head>
        <link type="text/css" rel="stylesheet" href="stylesheet.css"/>
        <title>About Me</title>
    </head>
    <body>
        <img src="https://s3.amazonaws.com/codecademy-blog/assets/46838757.png"/>
        <p>We're Codecademy! We're here to help you learn to code.</p><br/><br/>
        <div>
            <a> href="https://facebook.com" <span>Like Us on Facebook!<span>
            </a>
        </div>
    </body>
</html>

If I put the > before the span it says "Make sure you put some text for your link between your tags!"

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
    <head>
        <link type="text/css" rel="stylesheet" href="stylesheet.css"/>
        <title>About Me</title>
    </head>
    <body>
        <img src="https://s3.amazonaws.com/codecademy-blog/assets/46838757.png"/>
        <p>We're Codecademy! We're here to help you learn to code.</p><br/><br/>
        <div>
            <a href="https://facebook.com" ><span>Like Us on Facebook!<span>
            </a>
        </div>
    </body>
</html>

This is how you you code a link

<a href="http://www.google.com">Google</a>

Where google link is you put the website link and where Google is you put in your text that you want to be linked

@zainabrawat

I need a span in there for CSS; should I just do <a href="http://www.google.com"><span>Google<span></a> for that? Because when I try that format it says, "Oops, try again.
Make sure you put some text for your link between your tags!"
Maybe I'm still doing something wrong?

#7

You didn't close of span

to close </span>

#8

Ahhh ok thank you!

It still doesn't like it for some reason... "Oops, try again.
Make sure you put some text for your link between your tags!"

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
    <head>
        <link type="text/css" rel="stylesheet" href="stylesheet.css"/>
        <title>About Me</title>
    </head>
    <body>
        <img src="https://s3.amazonaws.com/codecademy-blog/assets/46838757.png"/>
        <p>We're Codecademy! We're here to help you learn to code.</p><br/><br/>
        <div>
            <a href="https://facebook.com"><span>Like Us on Facebook!</span>
            </a>
        </div>
    </body>
</html>

Code is fine now (latest answer), seems you hit a glitch, try a different browser.
