Trouble with Ending up

I'm not sure what's wrong with my code.

pyg = 'ay'

original = raw_input('Enter a word:')

if len(original) > 0 and original.isalpha():

word = original.lower()
first = word[0]

new_word = word + first + pyg
new_word = [1:len(new_word)]

print (new_word)

print 'empty'

Never mind sorted it out :smile:

So what was the problem?

he forgot to put new_word in front of [1:len(new_word)]
example: new_word = new_word[1:len(new_word)]
