Text for link? (Bug maybe :/)

#1

OK, i'v been suck on this for some time now i do not know what to do :frowning:

This is the error massage...

Oops, try again.
    Make sure you put some text for your link between your <a></a> tags!

My code is for HTML....

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
    <head>
        <link type="text/css" rel="stylesheet" href="stylesheet.css"/>
        <title>About Me</title>
    </head>
    <body>
        <img src="https://s3.amazonaws.com/codecademy-blog/assets/46838757.png"/>
        <p>We're Codecademy! We're here to help you learn to code.</p><br/><br/>
        <div>
            <a href="https://www.facebook.com/">Yay Too <span>FACEBOOK</span>!</a>
        </div>
    </body>
</html>

And the CSS

p {
    text-align: center;
    font-family: Garamond, serif;
    font-size: 18px;
}

div {
    height: 50px;
    width: 120px;
    border-color: #6495ED;
    background-color: #BCD2EE;
    border: 2px solid;
    border-radius: 5px;
    margin: auto;
    text-align: center;
}

a {
   text-decoration: none;
   font-family: Garamond;

and i do not know what i am doing wrong :confused:

Hi all,
I am having the same exact issue as everyone else on this thread! I'm getting the "Oops try again!" saying I need to put text between my tags- when there is indeed text between the tags! I tried with the "span" option and without- neither one helps. I need to complete this whole HTML/CSS lesson for my Web Production class and it is beyond frustrating that I can not advance forward - because of this stupid error message!!

If anyone associated with Codecademy (or someone who has encountered and fixed this issue)- can please help me, I would appreciate it greatly. I need to complete this and take a screenshot of the 4 badges earned (for the 4 sections)- by Monday evening.
Thanks for any help- it's dire! :smile:Danette
P.S. Here is my HTML code

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
    <head>
        <link type="text/css" rel="stylesheet" href="stylesheet.css"/>
        <title>About Me</title>
    </head>
    <body>
        <img src="https://s3.amazonaws.com/codecademy-blog/assets/46838757.png"/>
        <p>We're Codecademy! We're here to help you learn to code.</p><br/><br/>
        <div>
        <a href="http://www.rd.com/culture/halloween-movies-scare-you-senseless/">
        Find me on the <span>COUCH</span></a>

        </div>
    </body>
</html>

Still stuck :confused: can't find anything, reset the code three times over and page few time's. We need someone who works with the site... Doing this for school as well...

#6

I am new to this but I got stuck on this too.... I think it has something to do with the FONT-FAMILY attribute. Every time I try to add a font-family it reverts to the original set up... So I took it out and it worked... here's a copy of my code:

HTML:

	<p>We're Codecademy! We're here to help you learn to code.</p><br/><br/>
	<div>
		<a href="http://deliciousunknownavenue.tumblr.com/">Like anime? Check out this <span>Tumblr!</span></a>
	</div>

CSS:

p {
text-align: center;
font-family: Garamond, serif;
font-size: 18px;
}

div {
height:50px;
width:120px;
border-color:#6495ED;
background-color:#BCD2EE;
border-width:2px;
border-style:dotted;
border-radius:5px;
margin:auto;
text-align:center;
}
a {
text-decoration:none;
color:#993399
}
span {
text-decoration:none;
color:#66FF66
}

See if that helps maybe? ...

#7

you forgot the closing one "}"

#8

Thank you it's worked :smiley:

#9

I also had this error.

Deleting the CodeCademy 'img' and 'p' tags from the code before submitting worked for me.

#10

I had the same problem, but when I copy pasted the code from lesson 1 (the original button) It worked...

#11

I think that's a bug. Had this problem with another project on codecadamy, where it said, I had to put some text between my tags.
Try to use another browser, because that solved my problem that I had on FF.

Just hope someone is going to fix that BUG.

#12

You probably figured a solution by now- but just in case, I finally got the code to pass by trying a different browser! I was originally using Firefox and then tried Safari and it passed! I originally circumvented it by going to the next lesson, but realized in the end- it won't give you the badge for that part then! And for my assignment- we needed to upload a screenshot of all our earned badges.

Overall- I'm pretty disappointed NO ONE from Codecademy bothered to help any of us : ( What is the point of a Q&A thread if the only people listening are the ones having issues!?

Oh well...
