<body>

    <table style="border-collapse:collapse;">
        <thead>
            <tr>
                <th style="color:red;colspan="2"><em>Famous Monsters by Birth Year</em></th>
            </tr>
            <tr style="border-bottom:1px solid black;">
                <th style="padding:5px;">Famous Monster</th>
                <th style="padding:5px;border-left:1px solid black;">Birth Year</th>
            </tr>
        </thead>
        <tbody>
            <tr>
                <td style="padding:5px;">King Kong</td>
                <td style="padding:5px;border-left:1px solid black;">1933</td>
            </tr>

            <tr>
                <td style="padding:5px;">Dracula</td>
                <td style="padding:5px;border-left:1px solid black;">1897</td>
            </tr>

            <tr>
                <td style="padding:5px;">Bride of Frankenstein</td>
                <td style="padding:5px;border-left:1px solid black;">1944</td>
            </tr>
        </tbody>
    </table>

</body>

this is what I get: Oops, try again. Surround 'Famous Monster' with tags!

colspan and style are both attributes, you should just separate them with a space, here is an example of image of with two attributes:

<img src="url" alt="my image">

as for your em tags, you added them to famous monsters by birth year, you should add them to the th tags a few lines lower (famous monster and birth year), which are two more <th></th> tags
