#1

https://www.codecademy.com/en/courses/deploy-a-website/lessons/github-pages/exercises/git-init?action=resume

I passed the exercise once ,restarted it , redid it ,now jst not let me pass , why is that?

#2

Note that the cd command is telling you that it failed, yet you continued with next command. That's not the problem here but make sure to pay attention to what commands tell you so that you can adapt.

Looks like the directory that you're in doesn't exist, pehaps a result of the reset. Navigate back to where you're supposed to be from ~ (home). cd . might be sufficient (cd to current path)

#3

$ cd $PATH
bash: cd: /home/ccuser/.bin:/home/ccuser/.gem/ruby/2.0.0/bin:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/
sbin:/sbin:/bin: No such file or directory
$ cd personal-website
bash: cd: personal-website: No such file or directory
$ git init
Initialized empty Git repository in /home/ccuser/.git/
$
#still dont let me pass !

#4

i started the course from the first this time im stuck on ex 4 step 1 :
$ git remote add origin http://github.com/miladzxc/miladzxc.github.io.git
fatal: Not a git repository (or any of the parent directories): .git
im jst getting crazy man!

#5

If your current directory isn't a git repo, then what explanations are there for that and what can you do about either scenario..?

You're in the wrong directory or there's no repo where there should be one

Feedback. Read it. Compare to what you are doing.

#6

i checked anything bro,jst checked one more time ,Ive been stuck on this for hours

#7

$ cd $PATH
bash: cd: /home/ccuser/.bin:/home/ccuser/.gem/ruby/2.0.0/bin:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/
sbin:/sbin:/bin: No such file or directory
$ cd personal-website
bash: cd: personal-website: No such file or directory
$ init
init: Need to be root
$ git remote add origin http://github.com/miladzxc/miladzxc.github.io.git
fatal: Not a git repository (or any of the parent directories): .git
$ cd personal-website
bash: cd: personal-website: No such file or directory
$ git remote add origin http://github.com/miladzxc/miladzxc.github.io.git
fatal: Not a git repository (or any of the parent directories): .git
$

the recent command i typed

Seems to me like you're just aimlessly trying various commands without checking if you're in the right directory or whether the repository or website files are present. You need to always check that anything you rely on is in place before doing next thing. I can't look around in your files, so here's how you just put everything back in place regardless of their current state.

mkdir -p ~/workspace/daw
cd ~/workspace/daw
rm -rf personal-website
jekyll new personal-website
cd personal-website

#9

well Im agree with you in "aimlessly" but sth is fun for me ,I recreated personal-website and anything was ok !
$ jekyll new personal-website
New jekyll site installed in /home/ccuser/workspace/daw/personal-website/personal-website.
$ ls
_config.yml _layouts _sass about.md feed.xml personal-website
_includes _posts _site css index.html
$ cd personal-website
$ jekyll serve

$ mkdir -p ~/workspace/daw
$ cd ~/workspace/daw
$ rm -rf personal-website
$ jekyll new personal-website
New jekyll site installed in /home/ccuser/workspace/daw/personal-website.
$ cd personal-website
$ git remote add origin http ://github.com/miladzxc/miladzxc.github.io.git
fatal: Not a git repository (or any of the parent directories): .git

still anything is not working

#11

And what is it telling you is the reason for not succeeding?

#12

yes i can not pass this step

#13

And it's telling you why. So what does it say?

#14

you can see everything here
$ git remote add origin http ://github.com/miladzxc/miladzxc.github.io.git
fatal: Not a git repository (or any of the parent directories): .git

#15

Yes sure, but why do I need to see any of it?

Git is telling you in no uncertain terms why it can't do what you are asking of it. Read what it says and consider what you can do about it.

Your screenshot doesn't match what you wrote under it. No clue what you would be asking anyway.

#16

sorry i dont understand what you say ,you want to know "error msg" above Run Bottom?

#17

I don't want to know anything! That's your job.

#19

ok thats my job but what is my job?:sweat_smile:

#20

I do believe the instructions describe some form of task, that's a good place to start.

#22

forget it bro ,I reset the course totally ,redid it ,still doesnt let me pass although i did it right ,if theres any mistake make me aware othervise were facing a bug
