Stuck adding letters under if

I get the error below when I click submit.
File "python", line 5
if len(original) > 0 and original.isalpha() and word = original.lower() and first = word[0]:
SyntaxError: invalid syntax

I am supposed to add the following codes:
word = original.lower()
first_letter = word[0]

The problem is that these 2 codes I am supposed to add in the if statement, but how do I do that? Adding them by using and operations does not work.

Replace this line with your code.

Hi @duluchan,

This should not be part of the if block header ...

and word = original.lower() and first = word[0]

Instead, these two assignment statements should be placed inside the if block ...

    word = original.lower()
    first = word[0]

where is the "if block"? I'm stuck too, could u write the code out for me?

Ok so I managed to fix it. Here is the completed code after I fixed everything. Hope it helps.
