Special method question

While I was reading next() function, some line said that next function invokes

__next__

in iterator object.

Then I guess maybe those special methods are what give the types what define them. Like int type has __add__ method that allows them to be added with arithmetic symbols and list withi __contain__ that allows to be searched using index.

Is this guess right?

Yes. All functions that come with Python have a similar type of operation under the hood.

You can always check what they are with a dir() call.
