I cant see what is wrong with this code. Any ideas people?

var cashRegister = {
    total: 0,
//insert the add method here
    add: function(itemCost){
        this.total =+ itemCost;
    }

    scan: function (item) {
        switch (item) {
        case "eggs":
            this.add(0.98);
            break;

        case "milk":
            this.add(1.23);
            break;

        //Add other 2 items here
        case "magazine":
            this.add(4.99);
            break;

        case "chocolate":
            this.add(0.45);
            break;

        }
        return true;
    }
};

//Scan 2 eggs and 3 magazines
cashRegister.scan("eggs");
cashRegister.scan("eggs");
cashRegister.scan("magazines");
cashRegister.scan("magazines");
cashRegister.scan("magazines");
//Show the total bill
console.log('Your bill is '+cashRegister.total);

this is the error message im getting

SyntaxError: Unexpected identifier

#3

add: function(itemCost){
        this.total =+ itemCost;
    } // missing ,

there is a comma missing after your } which closes add, the comma is need to separate cashRegister properties

#4

Check the names of items, when you call "scan" method. Plus comma, as already was pointed.

#5

Shouldn't it be

this.total += itemCost;

instead of

this.total =+ itemCost;

Writing =+ itemCost would be, imagining that itemCost is equal to 5, the same as assigning this.total to +5 (positive 5) or just 5, i.e Itself , as opposed to += itemCost which increments this.total by itemCost

and btw, you have to scan 3 Singular magazine not 3 Plural magazineS
