Hi!

Iā€™ve never been into coding. 10 years ago I tried it the first time with a book about C++. I ended up on chapter one and felt too stupid to learn it. A couple of years later I had a job in which I had to learn a bit HTML and CSS. I picked up the things I needed to do my work. I was also interested in JS but still felt too stupid to understand it. Two things had change my mind:

  1. Iā€™m currently working in a special department with some difficult processes. To make the life for me and my colleagues easier, I created an app with my basic knowledge in HTML, CSS and JS with the Electron Framework. It was quite a challenge to create it but my colleagues really appreciate it.

  2. I read about a mathematician who was to stupid for math. His secret was: He hammered the knowledge into his brain. Repeat and repeat and repeat until you understand it. He became a math magician.

I have decided to learn HTML, CSS and JS from start on to actually understand what Iā€™m doing. I stay up one hour earlier to go through the course. I use the app on my way to the work and on the way back. I need to wait for something more then two minutes? I start Grasshopper from Google to play around with JS.
Once Iā€™m dedicated to something I go all the way through it. Iā€™ve never had a problem with self-motivation. But Codeacademy makes it a bit easier to stay motivated.

My goals: I want to make the (working) life for my colleagues easier. I want to master what Iā€™m learning right now. I would like to get in contact with other people to learn as much as possible. And if I can find a new job in this area, that would be the coolest thing.

Hi! This is my first month at my first full time job as a Software Engineer, working in JavaScript. I am doing it just for the experience as a professional developer. I want to learn Machine Learning to apply for a job as a Machine Learning Engineer, and then apply for a full scholarship for a Masterā€™s program in the field. So my goal for this month is to complete the Machine Learning course on Codecademy.

Iā€™ve been working in software for the last 15 years in some capacity or another. I started out working as a correctional officer and was pulled to work on configuring and implementing the facilityā€™s new computer system. From there I got into software training and finally into project management. During that time I worked as an implementation specialist and did some product management. I have always had a love for HTML and software as a whole. My goal is to be able to transition from the project side and get more into development. Itā€™s just hard with a full time job, but Iā€™ll get there.

My goal is to make something substantial.
My goal was to complete the Web Development Path this month, but I donā€™t think thatā€™s gonna happen with how much trouble Iā€™ve had with JavaScript.

Iā€™ve been running through a few of the courses here, hopping from one interest to another as my mood fits me. Thatā€™s typically how I learn things; 500 tabs open and the fans on my poor laptop whirring tillā€™ it sounds like itā€™s about to die.
I ran through the Python2 course in about 3-1/2 days, but felt pretty burned out afterwards. However, it was the impetus for me to go Pro-Membership so I could take the Python3 course, so I guess you could say it was inspiring?

That of course led me to installing VisualStudio-Code and Node.js on my laptop so Iā€™d have my own platform to work on projects. Que downloading about 50 plugins later, and I think Iā€™ve finally learned how to work VSCode without problems. Now 1/2 the time I just copy/paste my code into CodeCademy when I think Iā€™ve got the solution I want to turn in.

Visual Studios Code

About a week into the Python3 course, I was distracted by the ā€œMake your own Websiteā€ course here, and the allure of having something completed and tangible that I could actually use as proof of progressā€¦well, kinda overwhelmed my interest in Python3.

Make A Website

Plus side? After completing that course in a few days, I decided I really liked Web Development and switched focus to the Web Development path. HTML was a breeze. Like, maybe 2 days. Especially coming from the ā€œMake a Websiteā€ course. CSS? Trickier, but I liked learning all the more advanced topics the other course had simply skimmed or not even covered.

JavaScript, though, is kicking my butt.
I donā€™t know if itā€™s just the lack of formal training, or my own impatience, or a clash with the Python2/3 knowledge that I learned earlier, but everything about JS feels like a struggle.
Iā€™ve completed the Intermediate JavaScript component of the Web Development Path, but honestly it feels like Iā€™m just in the weeds.
Iā€™ve only been at it since the second week of February though, so I donā€™t know how much of this is just my own impatience, or my inexperience, or just general ineptitude.
Hopefully it doesnā€™t take me the full 3 months that CodeCademy estimates to complete the course, because I look at the full catalog of JavaScript classes, and the fundamentals are just the beginning!

Thereā€™s so much to learn, and I want to keep going.

P.S. I stumbled across CodeWars many weeks ago, but finally decided to make a profile just last night, as a break from JavaScript. Iā€™m sure many people already know about it, but I want to share the link for those who donā€™t.

Hey @furkanarici , I believe in the same superpower. Itā€™s what pushed me to start learning web development. Iā€™m an accountant in the U.S., although I havenā€™t taken the big test yet. Glad to see a fellow bean-counter in the community.

Hi!
My name is Andrea and Iā€™m currently enrolled in on online bootcamp, but Iā€™m am having trouble with one particular section, React.
My goal for this 30-day challenge is to complete the web development path. Much of it will serve as a review, which is always welcome. The rest will help me complete my final project for the bootcamp, and then hopefully I can begin job hunting.
Iā€™m currently 30% done with the web development path, so I feel pretty hopeful.

Iā€™ve tried to code many times but I always failed to complete a full course in any language, so I guess my goal would be to complete a course.

Hello all!
First time poster, long time lurker(ish). I began codecademy way back when while the website was new! (2012-2013?) but gave up thinking I was totally out of my element. Coming back now, full sail and not ready to bail anytime soon. Iā€™m at day 12 of my 30 consecutive days and am now past where I left off those many years ago. My goal for the 30 day challenge is of course to complete the Web Development path and then some! Will be making my own experimental websites in order to build up a portfolio as well as practice whenever I get around to that point. In the lucky event that I get hired before the end of the year as a result of that, it would all be thanks to this here website  Iā€™m about to graduate with an art and animation degree by the end of this semester and Iā€™m hoping to merge the disciplines together as I get better with coding.

Hoping to learn some UX/UI on the side, but thatā€™s a long way from now.

Hey! First year PhD here in transport emissions, need to use python in my project so I suppose my main aim is to complete the python class (Iā€™m on 56% now) started in feburary but I am now looking to have a more consistant practicing time. I struggle with confidence and a fear of coding itself!!

Hi!

Iā€™ve been dipping my toes in HTML and JS sporadically for the past few years, and now Iā€™ve decided to try PHP. My goal is to spend half an hour to an hour a day on the PHP course and practice. And if I manage to finish before Iā€™m done the 30 days Iā€™ll go back to the wed development career path.

I have been learning HTML, CSS and JS on and off for a about 2 years now ā€¦ and iā€™m hoping this challenge will help me spend 3 hours a day building stuff with HTML and CSS so iā€™d feel comfortable moving forward with JS coding.

Iā€™m on day 6 of my 30 day Challenge. My goal is to have a better conceptual understanding of JavaScript and overcome my intimidation and inhibitions. I am currently 80 % through the intro to JavaScript and feeling much more confident about things like syntax and control flow!

Hello, My name is Nikita and I am a contractor in the D.C. area working as a Network Engineer. Iā€™ve always wanted to learn how to code but never had the patience to sit down and teach myself. This isnā€™t something Iā€™ve studied in high school and college; coding is actually something Iā€™d usually try to avoid. Iā€™ve got very beginner knowledge and would like to change that. Iā€™d like to start by learning HTML and CSS. Then move to JS and Node. I hope to become a Software Engineer, but the top of the mountain seems really far on day one. Wish you all the best and stay Corona free.
