Sending a letter-----How those code run?

#1

I wnat to know why the last print can use dictionary lloyd as an input???and how exactly the code work and output a A result
it’s about the way code work

lloyd = {
“name”: “Lloyd”,
“homework”: [90.0, 97.0, 75.0, 92.0],
“quizzes”: [88.0, 40.0, 94.0],
“tests”: [75.0, 90.0]
}
alice = {
“name”: “Alice”,
“homework”: [100.0, 92.0, 98.0, 100.0],
“quizzes”: [82.0, 83.0, 91.0],
“tests”: [89.0, 97.0]
}
tyler = {
“name”: “Tyler”,
“homework”: [0.0, 87.0, 75.0, 22.0],
“quizzes”: [0.0, 75.0, 78.0],
“tests”: [100.0, 100.0]
}

Add your function below!

def average(numbers):
total = sum(numbers)
total = float(total)
total = total/len(numbers)
return total
def get_average(student):
homework = average(student[“homework”])
quizzes = average(student[“quizzes”])
tests = average(student[“tests”])
sums = 0.1 * homework + 0.3 * quizzes + 0.6 * tests
return sums
def get_letter_grade(score):
if score >= 90:
return "A"
elif score >= 80:
return "B"
elif score >= 70:
return "C"
elif score >= 60:
return "D"
else:
return "F"
print get_letter_grade(lloyd)

#2

python will evaluate it, but not the way you want it to. You want to first calculate the average grade of lloyd (using get_average() ) before feeding it to get_letter_grade

#3

It’s hard to understand…where i can know about some principles of python???

#4

python has official documentation, which you can google

the sole purpose of get_letter_grade is to convert a number grade (obtained using get_average function) to a letter grade

#5

In fact,I’m in China.only can use baidu…lol…but thank you…

#6

any search engine should lead you to the official python docs, or you just start at the website (python.org) directly

#7

it’s this a official website about python??but i’m just a learner in the very first stage

#8

yes, python has its own website. There is very useful information on there.
