Run Build Task failing to compile Markdown to HTML

Working through Git and Github, Part I on the Full Stack path. Reached the Learn Markdown topic which diverts to this resource Markdown and Visual Studio Code.

The “Run Build Task” fails to convert the sample.md file to HTML.

A Mintty terminal window pops up with the title /usr/bin/bash --login -i /d /c C:\Users###\AppData\Roaming\npm\gulp.cmd default

The error message is bash: /d: Is a directory

I’ve searched VS Code and Stackoverflow for assistance, can’t find anything. Seems the terminal is interpreting the /d switch as some sort of path to a directory or folder. The error occurs whether using markdown-it or gulp as the markdown>HTML compiler.
