Race Day Exercise

I’ve completed the Race Day exercise https://www.codecademy.com/courses/introduction-to-javascript/projects/race-day, however I’m curious about one of the instructions. It says to create a control flow statement to check if a contestants age is greater than 18 & registered early to increase their race number by 1000, then says to make a separate control flow statement with the exact same if(age > 18 && regEarly) condition, but to output a console.log(). My question is why is it necessary to have two separate statements, wouldn’t it be more streamlined to write it as below?

if (age > 18 && regEarly)
{
raceNumber += 1000;
console.log(Contestant number ${raceNumber}, you will race at 9:30am.);
}
else if (age > 18 && !regEarly) {
console.log(Contestant number ${raceNumber}, you will race at 11:00am.);
}
else {
console.log(Contestant number ${raceNumber}, you will race at 12:30pm.);
}
