Recently, as in yesterday, I started watching Halt and Catch Fire. Only a few episodes in, but so far I am finding it pretty good! Will report back once I finish the series in full⦠might be a while
Not terribly coding-related, but The IT Crowd was pretty good/funny.
Love this. These are my all-time personal favorites.
Shows:
- Silicon Valley (2014-2019, HBO)
- IT Crowd (2006-2013, Netflix)
- Mr. Robot (2015-2019, Prime or Apple TV)
- Halt and Catch Fire (2014-2017, Netflix)
Movies:
- The Social Network (2010, Netflix)
- Pirates of Silicon Valley (1999, Amazon)
- Ex Machina (2014, Hulu)
Documentaries:
- The Internetās Own Boy: The Story of Aaron Swartz (2014, YouTube)
- Triumph of the Nerds (1996, YouTube)
- Citizenfour (2014, YouTube)
My favorite TV show when I was little that involved some coding was Wild Kratts
A couple of retro films in my mix of favorites:
Movies:
War Games (1983)
D.A.R.Y.L (1985)
Most of the Big Bang Theory episodes. All are my favorite.
Back in the late 1990s there was an animated series (one of the first fully computer-generated animated serials) out of Canada called āReBootā, about all the characters that lived in the āmainframeā.
Iām not a huge fan of the new ālive actionā re-boot of ReBoot, but the animated one (billed as a kidsā show that aired on Saturday mornings) was always amusing, and had a lot of programming, CS, and EE in-jokes and references.
Shows: Mr. Robot
Movies: Blackhat, Hackers and Cybergeddon. Not to mention The Algorithm.
Documentaries: The Hacker Wars
I liked two series Mr Robot, and one that isnāt 100% coding, but it still involves programming is scorpion
Just finished that show last week =ā/
Itās definitely a good one to watch.
Devs is a HBO mini-series that does a pretty interesting take on programming
I would also add the Netflix doc, The Social Dilemma.
Iām a data person. My interests lies in how these technologies become abused. I also need to see The Great Hack about the Cambridge Analytica/FB scandal.
Ghost in the Shell === Anime 1996 (Original Adaptation and is amazing)
Ghost in the Shell === 2017 Movie adaptation with Scarlett Johansson (Netflix)
Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 === 2020 (Netflix Animated)
Mr. Robot is also amazing
Some other favorites of mine, albeit coding, hacking, AI === Blader Runner, Tron, Matrix, Wargames, Johnny Mnemonic, Ex-Machina
Startup (South Korean TV series) on Netflix is really good
I liked The Unlisted on Netflix. It was not entirely about coding, but coding played a pretty important role in the turnout of events
āDevsā on HBO GO is pretty good
If you havenāt, you MUST see these two gems:
Sneakers (1992): There are too many secrets. What if you could open all of them?
