Querying the minimum date

Hi everyone,
In the analyze data with sql path there is a project listed that asks us to query the minimum date in an art collection to view the pieces as well as medium. I am referring to step #4 in the project

https://www.codecademy.com/paths/analyze-data-with-sql/tracks/analyze-data-sql-calculate-and-summarize-data/modules/analyze-data-sql-practice-aggregate-functions/projects/sql-the-met

The way the solution does it seems a little counter intuitive to the purpose of querying. In my mind, I was hoping for a way to do it all in a single query. Why wouldn’t something like this work? Is there any way to go about doing it, there has to be.

SELECT title, medium FROM met
WHERE date IS min(DATE);

Could you get away with ordering and limits? Something using a join or perhaps a subquery making use of the minimum date in place of your MIN(date) might also work (though could be slower).
