Python Code Challenges: Lists - Syntax error when defining function

In exercise 1 I define my function as such:

def append_sum(1st):

When I run it keeps giving me syntax error pointing to my parameter. Can somebody tell me what’s wrong here?

parameters need to have valid variable names, variables names can’t start with numbers/integers.
