Professional programming with one hand is it possible?

Hi Everyone,

I have been coding on and off for about a year now. I am really enjoying it and I am thinking about a career change to programming. However, unfortunately, I lack fine motor skills in one of my hands and thus I can only type one-handed. Therefore I type relatively slowly (30-40 words per minute).

Is it a realistic goal to become a professional programmer with this disability or would it be better to just continue as a hobbyist?

I would appreciate any responses, or thoughts on this. However, I would particularly appreciate any responses from professionals currently working in the industry.

I tried a test on myself to see what 30-40 looks like and I think that’s fine. As long as what you write is correct then I don’t see a problem with you getting a job if you know your stuff. Developing fortunately relies on a lot more skills than just typing speed!
