Practice Makes Perfect: Question

Can someone please explain to me what the (9) means, in the last line of code.

This executes the method by_three, providing 9 as an argument (or parameter) to be used inside of that method as input.

For example, if by_three were defined like so (hypothetically):

def by_three(num):
  return num / 3

then by_three(9) would simply return 3.
