Let’s crowdsource our combined wisdom as Codecademy users to predict TIOBE’s next programming language of the year. For 2018, the distinction went to Python, based on its gaining the most ranking points during the year 2018 in terms of percentage share of popularity as compared to all other programming languages. For details on how the ratings are performed, see the TIOBE Index page.
TIOBE’s programming language of the year for 2019 will be announced during the early days of January, 2020. On January 1, 2020, we’ll end the polling here, and announce TIOBE’s determination as soon as that information becomes available. Below are the TIOBE Index statistics for January, 2019 that will serve as the basis of comparison to the statistics for January, 2020 for the purpose of making the determination. At that time, the programming language of the year for 2019 will be the one with the highest number in the Change column on the right side of the table, which represents the amount of change that has occurred in the Ratings column for each language over the past twelve months. Note that in January, 2019, Python ranked highest in the Change column with +3.62%.

EDITED on January 23, 2019 to insert the table of TIOBE Index statistics for January, 2019
Python is still a dominator, so I voted it. Until a improved language similar comes out, Python would remain at the top. Its high on most popular on most sites likes @trevorhodges. But I found one with 1st, and one in 5th. Rest were 3rd place.
Yes, let’s keep in mind that via this poll, we are attempting to predict which programming language will increase in popularity by the largest percentage within the TIOBE Index during the year 2019. In early January, 2020, TIOBE will make the determination and subsequent announcement by comparing its January, 2019 statistics to its January, 2020 statistics.
The year 2019 is nearly over, and you have just a few more weeks to cast your prediction as a vote. Polling ends on January 1, 2020. See the original post for the context of this discussion and poll.
Below is a copy of the TIOBE Index chart for December, 2019. In the Change column on the right side of the chart you can see how the percentages have changed since the beginning of December, 2018. Keep in mind, though, that the TIOBE programming language of the year for 2019 will be determined in early January, 2020 by the amount of change that has occurred from the start of January, 2019 to the start of January, 2020.
The following is quoted from their web site today (January 5, 2020):
Everybody thought that Python would become TIOBE’s programming language of the year for the second consecutive time. But it is good old language C that wins the award this time with an yearly increase of 2.4%. Runners up are C# (+2.1%), Python (+1.4%) and Swift (+0.6%).
The ratings are based on the number of skilled engineers world-wide, courses and third party vendors. Popular search engines such as Google, Bing, Yahoo!, Wikipedia, Amazon, YouTube and Baidu are used to calculate the ratings.
Concerning the voting in this poll (see the original post), nobody predicted that C would be awarded this designation. Python received 73% of the votes, and JavaScript ran a distant second at 13%.
