Pig latin question

#1

how are we supposed to create a variable inside of an if statement if the if statement only contains what it's iffing, and the return, without making it return the variable (this is on the piglatin one)

#2

Well, you can create a variable at the global level if the if statement is at the global level.

if True:
    a = True
print(a)

On the pig latin though you can do this,

original = raw_input("Enter a word")
if (original and original.isalpha()):
    print(original[1:] + original[0] + 'ay')
