When I first upgraded to pro, I used PayPal to finish my payment. I
canceled pre-approved payment authorization since I didn’t want to pay
automatically. But now, I could’t finish my payment using PayPal.

Given Codecademy Pro is a monthly subscription service, you would need to readjust the PayPal payment pre-approval setting you opted out of in order to signup for Pro.
Keep in mind, cancellation within the first 14 days of your first subscription entitles you to a full refund. Additionally, you can cancel your subscription anytime by navigating to *Subscription and Billing from within your account settings.
