  <body>
<div class="jumbotron">
      <div class="container">
        <h1>Find a place to stay.</h1>
        <p>Rent from people in over 34,000 cities and 192 countries.</p>
        <a href="https://www.airbnb.com/">Learn More</a>
      </div>
    </div>

.jumbotron {
  background-image:url('http://techmeetstravel.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/lasvegas-skyline.jpg');
  height: 500px;
  background-repeat: no-repeat;
  background-size: cover;
}

.jumbotron .container {
  position: relative;
  top:100px;
}

.jumbotron h1 {
  color: #fff;
  font-size: 48px;
  font-family: 'Shift', sans-serif;
  font-weight: bold;
}

.jumbotron p {
  font-size: 20px;
  color: #fff;
}

like I said, I passed the course,(fun fun btw). just cant figure out why las vegas isn't in back of "find a place to stay".
thoughts?

I copy/pasted your code and your background image looks good at my end.

I'm not sure what to suggest but you now know that the problem isn't your code.
