Option to turn off achievement notifications for Pro Members

Hello, as someone that pays money for an annual codecademy membership I wish to not see achievement alerts while I’m in the middle of a lesson.

They’re annoying.

They’re not helpful.

They do not motivate me.

I hope that when I become a developer a TPM doesn’t [try to] assign this feature request to me because I’ll know they used to work at codecademy.

I think there is a way to turn them off.

Go to your profile > Goal Settings> and turn them off.

Hi, would you mind elaborating a little? I also find these constant pop ups quite annoying and I’d love to turn them off, but when I go to goal settings the only option it has is for the weekly goal. I’d ideally love to be able to turn off all notifications that appear in the bottom right corner (like completing a project). Thanks!

I misunderstood a little bit. Currently, that functionality doesn’t exist to turn off the pop ups in the lower right corner for when you finish a section of a course.

You can just x out of it and it goes away…

Would you elaborate on that please? I’m not able to find it, only an option to set how many days per week I expect to code.

As of January 2021 there is no way to turn this setting off.

'X’ing out of each alert is exactly what I don’t want to do, especially as a paid member.

Please upvote this post if you feel likewise.

You could find an auto clicker that’ll click it away

And they only appear at the end of courses

I’m not 100% certain, but I think the notifications are suppressed if you use the focus timer available in the top-right of the learning environment.

It’s the alarm clock icon to the right of the green dot that indicates you’re connected to Codecademy.

Hey @design6984985798 @h_harper unfortunately there’s no way to turn achievement alerts off from the Weekly Targets page at the moment

@richiewu is it something the team hopes to implement soon?

Thanks! I’ll give this a go, hopefully it provides an interim solution until Codecademy can implement something more permanent.

Hey @design6984985798 and @h_harper , appreciate the feedback and sorry to hear that you’re not finding the achievements alerts helpful. We definitely hear you and will look into this!

Hopefully, you’re enjoying your annual membership otherwise! Feel free to reach out any time with other feedback

Hey @thepitycoder , unfortunately I don’t think that would suppress the achievement notifications in the learning environment

@richiewu Hey, sorry to pin you down on this, but just for some clarity, does that mean it’s not something Codecademy intends to implement any time soon? (i.e. within the next few months)

hey @h_harper, no worries at all, I’m planning to raise this with the team next week, can keep you posted.

Just to make sure I understand this correctly:

You’re finding the rectangular notifications on badges that pop up at the bottom-right corner of the learning environment distracting and would like an option to disable seeing this. Is that correct?

Yes, that’s it. It is an unnecessary gamification and a distraction from the course work. I am asking to have the option to silence the badge notifications.

@richiewu thanks for updating us about this, and I’m happy to hear you’ll bring it up at the next meeting.

Yeah, that’s the gist of it. Ideally I’d love to be able to turn off all notifications (badges, completed projects, days of the week achieved etc), or if it’s not possible to turn them off altogether, at least have them disappear on their own after a few seconds without having to manually click them away.

Big fan of the site in all other respects, especially the career path curriculum. Completing those paths is a big motivator for me.

Hey @h_harper @design6984985798 @thepitycoder ,

End of week follow-up for yall as promised!

Spoke with the team, we are going to make some improvements to the notifications in the upcoming 2-3 weeks! One of the improvements will be to drastically decrease the total number of notifications we surface. Will keep you posted when this is live!

Thanks for your patience
