Not allowing me to jump to next chapter

#1

In lesson JavaScript and jQuery ->JavaScript and DOM -> jQuery), even though I have have followed all the instruction properly and wrote code correctly, its not allowing me to jump to NEXT chapter which is jQuery selectors.

How can I jump to next lesson?

Thank you,

#2

That would be for you to judge since we have nothing to go on. Personally, I expect there will be an error once we see the code. It's the case 99 per-cent of the time when a person says they have followed the instructions and wrote code correctly. It's often a silly typo or something trivial. Take a close look at your code, re-read the instructions and lesson text and see it you don't solve this yourself.

We can at least stop speculating if your code is posted and we have a link to the exercise. Might you please oblige? Thanks.

Hello mtf,

Thank your for the reply.

There is a facility in code-academy that if we run incorrect code for few times then it gives us options to get correct code or keep trying. Even though I chose to receive correct code and I can see my code has been changed automatically into corrected form, it's not letting me to jump next chapter.

Below I have posted my html and javaScript code, please check

So here is my HTML code

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
  <link rel='stylesheet' type='text/css' href='css/styles.css'>
</head>

<body>

  <h1>Proficient in:</h1>
  <div class='skillset'>
    <div class='skill-html'>
      <h1>HTML &amp; CSS</h1>
      <p class='description'>
        <div class='projects-button'>Recent Projects</div>
        <ul class='projects'>
          <li>Broadway</li>
          <li>MOVE</li>
        </ul>
      </p>
    </div>

    <div class='skill-js'>
      <h1>JavaScript</h1>
      <p class='description'>
        <div class='projects-button'>Recent Projects</div>
        <ul class='projects'>
          <li>Password Validator</li>
          <li>Whale Talk</li>
        </ul>
      </p>
    </div>

    <div class='skill-jquery'>
      <h1>jQuery</h1>
      <p class='description'>
        <div class='projects-button'>Recent Projects</div>
        <ul class='projects'>
          <li>Coming soon...</li>
        </ul>
      </p>
    </div>
  </div>
<script src='https://code.jquery.com/jquery-3.1.0.min.js'></script>
<script src='js/main.js'></script>
</body>

</html>

And here is my javascript file

function main() {

}

$(document).ready(main);

Now may I ask which lesson this is? Please furnish a link to the exercise. Which step are you on (assuming there are steps in the page)?

<p></p> is not a block container, and should not have any blocks inside. Change,

<p class='description'>

</p>

to DIV's.

#8

Hi,

I tried my luck with the change that you suggested but does not help.

:frowning:

#9

Could you post your updated code?

Hello jibblyj

Here is my html file:

Proficient in:

HTML & CSS

Recent Projects

  • Broadway

  • MOVE

<div class='skill-js'>
  <h1>JavaScript</h1>
  <div class='description'>
    <div class='projects-button'>Recent Projects</div>
    <ul class='projects'>
      <li>Password Validator</li>
      <li>Whale Talk</li>
    </ul>
  </div>
</div>

<div class='skill-jquery'>
  <h1>jQuery</h1>
  <div class='description'>
    <div class='projects-button'>Recent Projects</div>
    <ul class='projects'>
      <li>Coming soon...</li>
    </ul>
  </div>
</div>

and here is my javascript file.

function main() {

}

$(document).ready(main);

#11

Your HTML isn't completely visible. To make it visible, please wrap it in backticks, like so:

```
<!-- Code goes here -->
```

Then I can help :slight_smile:

#12

Hi jibblyj,

I apology about that and yes that's good way to show code properly.

So here you go!

HTML file
`

Proficient in:

Recent Projects

  • Broadway

  • MOVE

<div class='skill-js'>
  <h1>JavaScript</h1>
  <div class='description'>
    <div class='projects-button'>Recent Projects</div>
    <ul class='projects'>
      <li>Password Validator</li>
      <li>Whale Talk</li>
    </ul>
  </div>
</div>

<div class='skill-jquery'>

    <ul class='projects'>
      <li>Coming soon...</li>
    </ul>
  </div>
</div>

`
And my javascript file is

`
function main() {

}

$(document).ready(main);
`

#13

It still doesn't show up :stuck_out_tongue:

Copy the text below this, and replace "REPLACE ME" with your code:

```
Sorry again :slight_smile:
#16
Error message? :slight_smile: ~
#17
I am actually going through the JavaScript tutorial in code academy. In following chapter (please check below and click given link to jump to actual chapter) I am supposed to make a link among jquery, javascript and html so that I can use jquery resources. I wrote code according to instruction and its correct but codeacademy is not allowing me to jump to next chapter. It says error "Oops! The test returned an error. Maybe you have a syntax error, or a typo."
Lesson: Learn JavaScript
Chapter: JavaScript and jQuery
Sub-chapter: JavaScript and the DOM
sub-sub-chapter: jQuery
Link to the accurate chapter :
https://www.codecademy.com/courses/learn-javascript/lessons/javascript-dom/exercises/jquery?action=lesson_resume
#18
It says:
Since jQuery is a library of code, we need to include a link to it in our index.html file before we can use it. Before the closing </body> tag, right above your current <script> tag, include this code:
<script src='https://code.jquery.com/jquery-3.1.0.min.js'></script>
The link to jQuery needs to be above the link to the js/main.js file, which will give main.js access to the jQuery library.
Read it carefully. Can you see what you need to do?
Before the closing </body> tag, right above your current <script> tag, include this code
And it gives you the code! Easy peasy! Just put that code in your <head></head> tags, and you should be good to go :slight_smile:
#19
I am sorry it does not help either. Have you tried by yourself? It did not work to me at-least :frowning:
#20
I have. Here's what my head looks like, and yours should look like;
<head>
  <link rel='stylesheet' type='text/css' href='css/styles.css'>
  <script src='https://code.jquery.com/jquery-3.1.0.min.js'></script>
</head>
That's what was asked for in the first part of the exercise. Have you done each step in order?
#21
I did the same thing....
