Where and how do you add an elif statement in this exercise, so that it caters for an already guessed area?

if guess_row == ship_row and guess_col == ship_col:
    print "Congratulations! You sank my battleship!"
else:
    "You missed my battleship!"
    if guess_row not in range(5) or guess_col not in \
    range(5):
        print "Oops, that's not even in the ocean."
    else:
        "You missed my battleship!"
board[guess_row][guess_col] = "X"
print_board(board)

between if not in ocean and else? Since you first wan to validate the shot is even in the ocean, but before you conclude the ship is missed
