No Longer Able to Use with My Students Due to Selling Data

My high school coding club students have enjoyed using Codecademy, but now that they are selling data (unless you opt out using the link at the bottom of the main page), we can no longer let our students use the website. Otherwise, we aren’t compliant with the Colorado Protection of Student Data Transparency and Security Act and the Protection of Personal Identifiable Information (PII),

It would be nice if the Clever path to usage did not involve this direct marketing, including advertisements and sharing information with vendors for business and commercial purposes, including analytics and advertising technology companies. If such a change was made to the system and the privacy policies were updated to account for it, I could continue to allow my students to use Codecademy.

Hi there!

Thanks for reaching out. It makes us happy to hear that your students have enjoyed using Codecademy in their club.
Our terms of use are separate from those of Clever. We would recommend reaching out to Clever directly to learn more about their privacy policy.

We do offer the option to opt-out of Codecademy’s internal data storage — which we encourage you to do if that’s your preference. Though please know we do not share any data externally.

If you have any other questions regarding Codecademy’s terms of use or privacy policy, our team would be happy to help you. You can contact them directly here: https://help.codecademy.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

Unfortunately, a student can only opt out after they have been opted in by default. This prevents us from using your product for K-12 by Colorado state law.
