My thought is the total number of likes you give as a badge. So, for example, you get a badge for 1k likes.

I don’t think this is a good idea.
Personally i am not sure what the like button is used for (never realy been into social network stuff), but i assume it is to let the user know that they asked a good question or that a post is appriciated.
If a badge where given for a certain amount of likes given there will be people that just like everything they can to get this badge. This would as a result give no meaning to liking.
This is also why i find it very strange why liking stuff is taken into account for getting lvl 2/lvl 3 status (but thats unrelated to this topic).

If not, hardly anyone would like then leaving good posts unliked and badges unearned.
