@marbee_ could you show your full code? thanks

Like rubylearner03 says, we need to see your full code, i also moved this to a new topic

@stetim94, thanks for moving this to a new topic :thumbsup:

I'll give you a short explanation, and hopefully your error will stop

you first need to start with

<!DOCTYPE html>

the reason you put that is so that the browser knows what type of document to expect

Next, you need to add the html tags,

ALL of your code will go between these two tags, [make sure nothings is written outside of them]

Inside the html tags you have the header tags,

  <head> </head>

Inside of the head tags you can add title tags, and links to font-families e.g.

 <!DOCTYPE html>
       <title>Your Page Title</title>
       <link href='' rel='stylesheet' type='text/css'>

(you can get your fonts from here )

after you made your head tag, underneath that you should have your body tag

 <!DOCTYPE html>
       <title>Your Page Title</title>
       <link href='' rel='stylesheet' type='text/css'>
      <!-- All the page content goes in here -->

if you look inside the body you can see this

, this is a comment, it helps you write notes, this does not get picked up and has no effect on the webpage

inside the body tags you can add all sorts of other tags
for example: header tags

<!--The first one <h1></h1> is the biggest then it gets smaller from tag to tag-->
<h1>  text </h1>
<h2>  text </h2>
<h3>  text </h3>
<h4>  text </h4>
<h5>  text </h5>
<h6>  text </h6>

theres even paragraph tags

<!--And much more!-->

you can see codecademy's glossary for more elements

@rubylearner03 Nice post!

Be careful with the term "header", though - you've got:

<h1>, <h2>, <h3>, etc.

and all of those are valid tags and referred to as "head" or "header" tags, so it's easy to get confused about which one someone's talking about unless they clarify (like you did) :)

which is why i use head for:

header for:

and heading for:

<h1>, <h2>, <h3>, etc.

I like to call them:

Above are the heading tags.

That one above is a header.

That one is just the head.

@zystvan thank you! :grinning:

hello my name is julie... i'm working with creating my own website...the instructions of number 2 says to create a <h1></h1> tags between the body tags and to type my name so that everyone could see.

when im dong this...i still not get it correct...any clarification please...i don't know what is wrong there...

Without seeing your code, i would guess you nest your body inside your head, could you post your code?

Please read this post about markdown so your code/indent will show.

Hi my name is ben. I have been trying to the 2nd exercise but it keeps telling my I haven't done the Doctype tag correctly. this is the code I have used. Any help would be welcome.

<title> ben's test website </title>

html should be lowercase to pass the exercise

@stetim94 is right, and you need to change <heads></heads> to <head></head>.

Thank you very much stetim94

Oh, and your html opening tag: <HTML> needs to be lowercase, just like the closing tag (last line), which is also missing the slash
