Lack of hardware knowledge

Hi guys, I’m sorry if it’s not really the right place to ask this but didn’t really find any topic that matches.
I’m currently learning web development, but I am pretty ignorant about all the hardware stuff that is involved in computers : how it works globally, the different technical specs that exist or even the operative systems. So my question is, do you think that it is important that I get a global knowledge about all this ? I mean obviously it’ll be useful to be curious about it and know what happens behind the scenes; but is it a prerequisite for you_ to be able to pursue career in web dev ? Thanks for your answers

The only thing one needs to know is where the ON button is and be able to fire up the system and open a text editor and browser. If you can manage that, you’ll already be half way there.

It is not important to have any hardware knowledge. You’re web publishing so should have proficiency in writing and creative exploits like graphics design, composition and layout. We should have a good idea of how a document is organized and presented.

Open a magazine. That is closer to your chosen field than computer hardware. A very good example of consistent layout and presentation is National Geographic, Architectural Digest, Destinations magazine, and so on.

How are you at writing essays, as in well formed and organized and that presents well to the reader: an abstract, an introduction, topic arrangement, figure placement, summary and conclusions? How are you at sketching and designing page layouts (wireframe)? Focus on these above skills and the HTML language will take on new meaning, as will CSS. Leave the hardware to engineers, computer scientists and network specialists. Their fields may be as mysterious to you as yours is to them. We can’t expect to be or do everything. Choose what you are interested in, and what you are good at.
