Java - trying to apply what i've learned and class error

i am trying to apply what i have learned in JAVA and keep getting error line 2 which is the “public class payroll” … using the MU editor and it keeps erroring? what am i doing wrong>. saved in Payroll.py file so it should run. i’ve also tried Payroll.class and it also fails. confused here. is my syntax wrong?

public class Payroll
{
public static void main(String args)
{
double hourly = 0;
double weekly = 0;
double anually = 0;
double monthly = 0;

double hourly = 11.53;
double weekly = hourly * 40;
double annually = weekly * 52;
double monthly = annually/12;

System.out.println(monthly);
}

}

I believe the file extension should be .java, not .py (that’s Python), and not .class.
