Hi there, I’m almost finished with Jammming but have ran into a problem, my search button isn’t working! Here’s some information regarding the bug:
- When I press the button, I don’t receive any errors in the console.
- The react developer tools reveal that, in SearchBar, the state IS updating as I type, but newEntry in props doesn’t change
Although I’m struggling to pinpoint where this error is occurring, I believe it would be in one of the following segments of code…
SearchBar.js:
import React from 'react';
import './SearchBar.css';
class SearchBar extends React.Component {
constructor(props) {
super(props);
this.state = {
term: ''
};
this.search = this.search.bind(this);
this.handleTermChange = this.handleTermChange.bind(this);
}
search(){
this.props.onSearch(this.state.term);
}
handleTermChange(event) {
this.setState({term: event.target.value});
}
render() {
return (
<div className="SearchBar">
<input placeholder="Enter A Song, Album, or Artist"
onChange={this.handleTermChange} />
<button className="SearchButton">SEARCH</button>
</div>
)
}
}
export default SearchBar;
SearchResults.js:
import React from 'react';
import './SearchResults.css';
import Tracklist from '../Tracklist/Tracklist';
class SearchResults extends React.Component {
render() {
return (
<div className="SearchResults">
<h2>Results</h2>
<Tracklist tracks={this.props.searchResults} onAdd={this.props.onAdd} isRemoval={false} />
</div>
)
}
}
export default SearchResults;
App.js:
import React from 'react';
import './App.css';
import SearchBar from '../SearchBar/SearchBar';
import SearchResults from '../SearchResults/SearchResults';
import Playlist from '../Playlist/Playlist';
import Spotify from '../../util/Spotify';
class App extends React.Component {
constructor(props){
super(props);
this.state = {
searchResults: [],
playlistName: 'New Playlist',
playlistTracks: []
};
this.addTrack = this.addTrack.bind(this);
this.removeTrack = this.removeTrack.bind(this);
this.updatePlaylistName = this.updatePlaylistName.bind(this);
this.savePlaylist = this.savePlaylist.bind(this);
this.search = this.search.bind(this);
}
addTrack(track) {
let tracks = this.state.playlistTracks;
if (tracks.find(savedTrack => savedTrack.id === track.id)) {
return;
} else {
tracks.push(track);
this.setState({playlistTracks: tracks})
}
}
removeTrack(track) {
let tracks = this.state.playlistTracks;
const trackIndex = tracks.indexOf(track);
tracks.splice(trackIndex, 1);
this.setState({playlistTracks: tracks});
}
updatePlaylistName(name) {
this.setState({playlistName: name});
}
savePlaylist() {
const trackURIs = this.state.playlistTracks.map(track => track.uri);
Spotify.savePlaylist(this.state.playlistName, trackURIs).then(() => {
this.setState({
playlistName: 'New Playlist',
playlistTracks: []
})
})
}
search(term) {
Spotify.search(term).then(searchResults => {
this.setState({searchResults: searchResults})
});
}

I appreciate there’s a lot there to look over, I just can’t bring myself to restart this project again </3 Any help would be massively appreciated!
