I've managed to hit a code wall and I've confused myself

pyg = 'ay'

original = raw_input('Enter a word:')
word = original.lower()
first = word[0]
new_word = word + first + pyg
if len(original) > 0 and original.isalpha():
print original
transformation = new_word[1:len(new_word)]
new_word = transformation

print 'empty'

I've yet again managed to get myself stuck As that seems to be correct going off post on here but I keep on getting this error
File "python", line 12
SyntaxError: invalid syntax

Please I need assistance
