Issues with Spread Operator outside of CC environment

The State Hook - Objects in State

In this lesson we use the spread operator […] in the handleChange function. Today I’m trying to replicate this functionality locally and I’m getting errors in my code editor that it doesn’t recognize this operator. I’ve read that the latest version of Babel that comes with installing React should allow it but that doesn’t seem to be the case. I’ve also seen articles that say the spread operator isn’t ES2015 functionality so that’s why it isn’t included. Any insight from the community would be helpful.

Here is the code I’m trying to replicate:

const handleChange = ({ target }) => {
    const {name, value } = target;
    setProfile((prevProfile) =>({
      ...prevProfile,
      [name]: value
    }));
  };

My Environment:
Windows 10
Visual Studio Code Version 1.55.1
Node Version 14.16.1
Installed React today using npx create-react-app appname
