Is there a difference between 0.5 and .5 in a real application?

in the practice html it gave me an “error” because I didn’t use “0.5” I used “.5” for my step. Does this 0 digit matter in real life or is it just for the sake of practice that I should be using the 0.5?

I’m pretty sure it doesn’t matter in a real word application but 0.5 is less ambiguous. If you use .5 it’s easier to miss the decimal point.
