Inheritance Fields - Default Access Field Need Modifier? Parent to Child Class

Hi All,

Quick question regarding inheriting fields from parent class to child class. Within classes we have accessed fields defined in the parent class in the sub class without adding an access modifier to them before studying inheritance. However, within inheritance it mentions in the table that ‘no modifier’ cannot be accessed by the child class and that the field needs to be ‘protected’.

This particular lesson here: https://www.codecademy.com/courses/learn-java/lessons/java-inheritance-and-polymorphism/exercises/parent-class-aspect-modifiers?action=resume_content_item

I believe I am missing something obvious here. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

Andrew
