Question

How important is to send status codes?

Answer

Even though, express handles some status codes for you when an error occurs or when you successfully send a response, setting up status codes to be sent with every response is very important.
Status codes help people trying to access the response to know if something went wrong or is missing, and it helps us as developers to debug our calls or API depending on the response code.

There are five types of status codes:
Starting with 1xx are informational responses, they just clarify that for example: 102 it is being processed.
Starting with 2xx are success responses, like our very good friend 200 ok response, that lets us know that the data we received or that the process we requested was successfully done.
Starting with 3xx are redirection related responses, they declared if the endpoint you requested had moved and that you are being redirected there 301.
Starting with 4xx are responses with client errors, like the well known 404 page or content not found, or the detested 403 forbidden that lets us know that the request was properly done but we do not have permissions to access its content.
And starting with 5xx, which are responses related to server errors, which we as developers also have to keep an eye for, like 502 bad gateway, which lets us know that there is a problem with how our server is sending the response.

Knowing this, the more detail we can be with our res.status() responses, the easier and more productive it will be for us and other developers to upkeep our API or server.
