Hey all!
I have been off and on working on Full-stack for approximately a year now in my off-time from my fulltime job, Though I have started to feel more comfortable with using and learning JavaScript sometimes I feel as if I missed and entire section somewhere and want more practice.
This has made me slow my progress quite a bit which has been a large frustration for myself.
I know often times learning is just repeating processes and gaining the functional expertise to know what to utilize in the proper situation.
What are some projects or practices the community has used as supplemental learning to feel more comfortable with JavaScript?
Does anyone if they don’t feel comfortable just restart modules and rework through them till you feel more comfortable? Go to the forums for help? Ask a Peer or coding mentor?
Just wanted to get some insight from the Community!
Thank you for your time

I was searching these forms to post the same questions. I am working on the Intro to ML and have just struggled through a python project. I tried my best, could not come up with any solutions.
I think reading your post helps, so thank you! In the past I have restarted modules and sometimes it worked out. Other times I just got frustrated and I end up stepping away completely. This time I don’t want to stop, I am going to continue the skills path. I am going to search a little harder for projects. If I cannot find any, maybe it’s time to create our own. I don’t know how I am going to do this. I understand now that when I try to code something that I know I don’t fully understand, I always end up somewhere other then where I began. Small progress, but progress.

If you search the forums for terms, “motivation”, “advice”, “learning to code”, “feeling overwhelmed”, or “thinking computationally” you will find some solidarity amongst other learners who are also hitting roadblocks or struggling to retain information. You’ll also find lots of supportive comments from other learners.
Getting frustrated is totally normal. So is feeling like you’re not retaining info. But, what I always tell people in these types of posts–you’re learning a new language(s), so you cannot expect to know it all in a week or even a month. It takes time, repetition, practice. Also knowing when to take breaks and allow your brain to focus on other things. No need to try to study 8 hours a day, when you’re really frustrated & not understanding anything. I also advise taking notes on concepts and writing out your own code examples…then you can refresh your memory when you hit a roadblock. It will get better and you will have those “ah ha!!” moments. Sometimes you just gotta trust the process. Also, never compare your progress to anyone else’s b/c that’s self-defeating. Everyone learns at a different pace.

Thanks for the comment!
I am not gonna stop either, previously I got to a stalling point and restarted over but I am gonna keep grinding away till I get it, like you said small progress is progress!
Just knowing others are out there go through similar battles helps me feel determined to overcome any obstacle in my way!

Thanks for the insight as well!
and you’re right everyone does learn at a different pace and has different circumstances that effect it as well!
Having solidarity and examples of how others have overcome them is great!
I have taken a little break recently with the uptick of work at my Current position and some life events but am jumping back and trying to get back in a consistent habit of even just a little bit a day to retain information!
